HENDERSON, CO - The Fairview Knights traveled to Prairie View High School in Henderson, CO, to take on the Thunderhawks in the first game of league play. Fairview’s 56 - 0 thrashing of Prairie View started with 28 points being scored in the first quarter by the state’s best athlete, Toray Davis.
Davis–the UCLA who recently announced the reopening of his recruitment–scored the first touchdown early in the contest and scored his fourth touchdown with minutes remaining in the opening quarter. The two-way player’s early contributions were so dominant that his night was able to end prior to halftime.
As impressive as it is to score 28 of the 49 first-half points in the first quarter, the big story about Davis is his collegiate future. His announcement about reopening his recruitment came after a mass decommitment of UCLA recruits following significant staff changes, but Davis didn’t announce a decommitment.
“I haven’t decommitted,” Davis said pregame to clear up any confusion. When asked if the coaching changes and other decommits played any part in reopening his recruiting, Davis said, “The coach I was talking with is no longer there, so we wanted to explore all options and make sure we’re making the best decision for the future.”
Davis didn’t divulge much about where he was currently in the decision-making process, but he did say that Colorado had been in contact and that he was still in touch with the staff at UCLA. A coach from Arizona State was on the sideline of the game. The Sun Devils were one of the first teams to offer Davis following his Twitter post about his recruiting situation.
The future is still a mystery for the most dynamic athlete in the state, but there is no doubt that whoever manages to add Davis to the roster will get an absolute playmaker.
