Fort Collins, Co- Toriyan Johnson isn’t the player who shows up first in the box score, but CSU’s offense feels his impact snap after snap. Wearing No. 76 for the Rams, the UConn transfer has become one of the key pieces up front, especially in the run game.

Offensive line play is hard to measure with one stat. The best signs are usually practical ones: cleaner rushing lanes, fewer broken plays, better push at the point of attack, and a quarterback who has time to let plays develop.

Johnson has helped give Colorado State more of that. Since arriving from UConn, he’s made clear strides in strength, timing, and comfort within the Rams’ system. For a transfer lineman, that matters. Learning new calls, adjusting to new teammates, and building trust across the offensive line doesn’t happen overnight.

Why he matters?

A good run game starts with the line, and Johnson’s role is simple but demanding: win his block, stay low, move bodies, and finish plays. When CSU has success on the ground, it’s often because players like Johnson are creating the first crack of space. That space may only last a second, but that’s all a running back needs. His improvement also shows in consistency. Linemen don’t need to make flashy plays. They need to avoid negative ones. Johnson’s growth has helped the Rams keep drives alive and play with more balance on offense.Coming from UConn, Johnson brought college experience with him, but he still had to earn his place at CSU. That’s what makes his rise stand out. He’s not just filling a spot. He’s becoming a real reason the Rams can lean on their offense.

The Rams’ run game needs toughness, timing, and trust. Toriyan Johnson has given CSU all three, and his progress up front is a big reason the offense has taken steps forward.
