Denver, Coliseum- Rock Canyon High School made history , bringing home the program’s first ever Class 6A boys basketball state championship.

The No. 5 Jaguars put together an improbable run all the way to the top, finishing the job at the Denver Coliseum with a 68- 58 win over the Ralston Valley Mustangs.

Junior guard Jacob David led the way with 15 points, coming up big when Rock Canyon needed him most. It was the kind of performance that matched the moment, with the Jaguars playing with confidence from the opening tip and refusing to let the pressure of a championship game change who they were.

Ralston Valley battled throughout, but Rock Canyon kept answering every run. The Jaguars made the plays down the stretch, protected their lead and closed out a 10 point victory in front of a packed crowd.

For Rock Canyon, this was more than just another win.

This was history.

The Jaguars came into the postseason as the No. 5 seed and left it as state champions. Nobody was handing them anything. They had to earn every step of the way, and when the biggest game of the season arrived, Rock Canyon played like a team that believed it belonged. David’s 15 points were a big part of that story, but the championship was a complete team effort. From the guards making plays to the defense getting stops, Rock Canyon stayed locked in for four quarters.

When the final horn sounded, the Jaguars could finally celebrate.

Rock Canyon had its first state championship. A No. 5 seed that nobody could count out.

An improbable postseason run.And a piece of history that will be remembered around Rock Canyon for a long time.
